Exploring how to fuel the brain that fuels your life | Introduction

Show Notes

Over the past year, I’ve been building something new.

Next Door Neuro is a space for exploring a simple question:

If our brains fuel our lives, what can we do to fuel our brains?

We spend a lot of time thinking about how to care for other parts of our bodies:

  • We choose specific foods for heart health.
  • We take supplements for our gut or joints.
  • We search for products and practices that support our skin.

But brain shapes nearly everything we consider truly important.

It allows us to focus, regulate our emotions, understand other people, plan ahead, manage stress, and experience joy. It’s the system that determines how we show up in the world.

And yet most of us rarely think intentionally about how to support it.

At the same time, modern life often works quietly against brain health. We spend more time indoors under artificial light, more time on screens designed to capture our attention, and more time under chronic stress. At the same time, many people struggle to get consistent sleep, eat nourishing food, move their bodies regularly, or spend time in nature.

Over time, these forces can slowly deplete the brain’s capacity to function at its best.

Next Door Neuro exists to explore how we can counter these forces.

Here, I’ll be sharing conversations with scientists, health practitioners, leaders, and thoughtful individuals about living well, how the brain works, and how we can realistically support the brain in the modern world.

But the conversations are only one part of the process.

Alongside the NDN podcast, I’ll be publishing Lab Notes - short reflections where I unpack ideas from these conversations, connect them to neuroscience, and explore what they might mean for everyday life.

These reflections will take the form of short videos as well as written newsletters where I share deeper thoughts, insights, and simple practices you can experiment with in your own life.

The goal of NDN isn’t optimization or perfection; instead, the goal is translation - taking what neuroscience and psychology tell us about how humans think, feel, and behave, and turning it into small, realistic practices that fit into real life.

Ideas that help restore a little more clarity, resilience, and emotional steadiness day to day.

If our brains truly fuel our lives (which they do!), then they deserve to be fueled well.

I’m excited to explore these ideas with you.
